This Unit is very important for the dental field especially. It involves charting teeth by the universal system and coloring the teeth accordingly. In this unit you will learn how to abbreviate the teeth individually and how to label along with charting them on two different types of charting sheets. You will also understand the concepts of when to use what color and how to draw on the charts. In this unit you will be doing some paperwork like a packet, but that will only prepare you for when you are to head to the lab for some hands-on charting. Before you try to do it by yourself it is important you understand the labeling and know the names of the surfaces.
What did I Learn?
I learned several things in this unit including the numbering system of the teeth. I learned how to call the names of decay or restoration including knowing the names of the surfaces of the tooth. I also familiarized myself with what color to draw the type of restoration. During this unit I also learned how to use both types of charts. We also learned how to take a patient by checking and analyzing their medical charts.
What would I Improve?
What did I like about Charting? I really liked how we did a lot of hands on in the dental lab with the tooth model. We got to actually experience what some of the dental tools were used for and how they are used. I also liked how I familiarized myself very well with the tooth surfaces and names. The hands on charting lab really helped gain more confidence in the assignment and charting. Charting isn't very easy at all, but it will be very helpful in the long run!
